ChatGPT without censorship: what are your options?
7 November 2026 · 2 min read
If a chatbot keeps saying "I can't help with that", you have options. None of them is magic, and each has trade-offs. Here are the four realistic ways.
1. Rephrase your prompt
Sometimes a refusal is a false alarm. Give context (research, fiction, education), be specific, and avoid wording that sounds like a request for harm. This costs nothing, but you depend on the provider's rules and they can change at any time.
2. Run an open model on your own computer
Tools like Ollama or LM Studio run open-weight models locally. Uncensored and abliterated versions exist for many of them.
- Pro: full control, nothing leaves your machine
- Con: you need a strong GPU for good quality, the setup takes time, and the biggest models do not fit on normal hardware
3. Rent a GPU and host it yourself
Cloud GPUs run large models. This is flexible but needs technical skill and costs money even when you do not use it.
4. Use a hosted uncensored service
A hosted service runs the large models for you. You open a chat or call an API and pay for what you use.
- Pro: no setup, strong models, works on a phone
- Con: you must trust the provider with your data, so check its privacy promises
What to check before you choose a service
- Does it train on your chats? It should not.
- How are chats stored? Look for encryption at rest.
- Which models exactly? Be wary of "100% uncensored" claims without model names. Real results differ per model.
- How do you pay? Pay-as-you-go avoids paying for a subscription you barely use.
- Is there an API? Useful if you want to use the models in your own tools.
Where Orrevan fits
Orrevan is a hosted option built around these points: uncensored and abliterated models, credit that you top up and use up, chats stored encrypted, and no training on your data. It also has an OpenAI-compatible API and a command line tool. We list every model by name, and we do not claim that every model is equally open.
Try it free of subscriptions: top up a small amount and test the models yourself.
